Galaxy At War: World At Ransom, Chapter 8

Head Agent's Office, INDF Headquarters, Demarque
28 June, 1999, 1912 hours

Robert sat back in his leather armchair, his hand over his face. Would Eusebio and the other agents misunderstand what he had just did? It was true that he was giving information to the AF, but that was so to distract the AF from the bigger picture: the manufacturing of the most powerful biological weapon in the history of mankind. Tricking the AF into believing him to be a mole who works for them undercover in the INDF, Robert was engineering things in such a way that the AF would be distracted from making its bio weapon. However, he did not know if the INDF would understand his intentions. Letting the INDF know of this would only complicate things further as they would stop him from communicating with the AF for "security" reasons. He would reveal all when the right time comes.

Picking up his phone, he dialed Eusebio, "Hey man, I just received information that the AF are mounting a tough defence along the northern wall. Infiltrate the warehouse using the sewage system and take them out from behind. Good luck."

"Got it, Robert. Thanks. I've taken note of that. Take care."

The INDF helicopter glided silently in the air as it headed toward the Parisian suburb of Nanterre. Mission briefing had started and the agents were getting ready for action.

"Here's the plan," Eusebio said as he activated a holo-map of Paris and its suburbs,"First, we come in through the sewage system from this manhole here." He pointed to a red dot on the western end of Nanterre.

"The warehouse's sewage system is connected to this sewage pipe here. If we succeed, we should reach the pipe on the second floor. We exit from this opening here. The guards will be stationed on the northern wall so we should not encounter much resistance. Once we kill all the guards, we plant C4s on the side of the storage room. There will be three getaway cars positioned just outside the factory. Once we reach the pick-up point, we detonate the C4s. The cars will also have to be destroyed to eliminate any evidence. This helicopter will pick us up at the pick-up point and Violá! We will be on our way home!"

The agents then proceeded to equip themselves with weapons and gear. Eusebio took his trusty P90, an AK-107, and a M-16.

"Whew! It stinks in here!" One of the agents, Wang, puffed.

"Duh, of course! Its a sewer!" Allen rolled his eyes.

Eusebio raised his hand, "Quiet! We are nearing the pipe. Any sound would be heard by the guards!"

They crept silently, trying not to make any sound. Soon, they saw the opening through which they were supposed to exit. Reaching the opening, Eusebio peeped out to see if there were any guards around.

"Clear! Move! Move!" Eusebio ordered as the agents fanned out into the room. Gripping his P90, Eusebio moved towards the doorway. His M-16 and AK-107 were strapped to back and his thigh holsters were filled with numerous pistols and other weapons, so weapons and ammo was no problem.

Suddenly, gunfire exploded from the end of corridor, forcing Eusebio to jump back into the room to avoid being hit.

"Oh *%&$! Take cover!" Eusebio shouted as he loaded his P90. Using a mirror to see the enemy positions, Eusebio could make out the body armour and weaponry of his assailants. Only one group in the world carried the Colt M4A1 assault rifle as its main weapon.

The PSAF-- the President's Special Assault Forces, pronounced "saf"-- was the very best military special forces unit in the world. The PSAF only answered to the American President and were licensed to kill anybody deemed to be an enemy of the President or America on sight. They possessed one of the best body armour and their Colt M4A1 assault rifles could fire 700 rpm.  From a previous cooperation, Eusebio knew that ordinary people would not want a confrontation with the PSAF. However, Eusebio was not an ordinary person.

Knowing that the PSAF would quickly move down the hall and cut off any escape, Eusebio formed a plan and quickly gave instructions. The men nodded and proceeded to fulfill their roles.

Five PSAF men entered the room, guns pointing in every direction. They moved in a pentagram formation, each man facing outwards. They didn't see David's IMI Galil sticking out of the grill covering the entrance to the sewer, nor did they leave the room alive.

Hearing the gunshots, Marcus Lewey, the commander of the PSAF unit, ordered another five men into the room. Seeing their dead comrades on the floor, they changed formation, moving along the wall in single file.

At the other end of the L-shaped room, Allen, Wang, and Eusebio readied their weapons. When the first PSAF man spotted them, Wang threw his flashbang grenade.  Due to their agent glasses and ear plugs, the three INDF agents were not affected by the flashbang. Allen's Saiga-12 shotgun  blasted the PSAF men to the floor while Eusebio's P90 and Wang's Bushmaster M17S assault rifle ensured no survivors.

By this time, Lewey was growing impatient. Although ten deaths were a small loss, he decided to finish those INDF agents once and for all. He sent in two men armed with Colt Commando rifles with AAI M203 grenade launchers attached and eight men armed with MP-5s. Eusebio had anticipated this move and sent an emergency signal to the David and his ten agents hiding in the pipe. They moved out of the opening and set up a special defence equipment made exclusively for INDF agents. The DS-359 was a special force-field like shield that could withstand grenade blasts. Eusebio, Allen, and Wang joined in and successfully completed the task before the PSAF men reached the room.

The two PSAF men with the grenade launchers fired in two grenades. "BOOOOMMM!" Smoke filled the room and the explosion rocked the ground. However, the DS-359 shield was not the least affected. The PSAF men entered the room and started firing wildly, hoping to hit a target in all that smoke. With the shield protecting them from the bullets, the agents moved towards the door, guns up.

  "BLAM!"

Lewey heard the sound just as he saw the PSAF men fly backwards out of the room. Allen's   Sledgehammer was at work. Seeing that, Lewey ordered his men to retreat back to the stairway. He knew that trying to penetrate the DS-359 was almost impossible, so he had to wait for its one-minute time limit to expire before he could fire any killing shot.

Back in the room, Eusebio's brain was bursting with questions. Why were the PSAF attacking them when the INDF was the PSAF's closest ally? Why in the world was the PSAF here? Was America secretly backing the AF? Could the President be on some mysterious business? Could the PSAF be there to try to eliminate the explosives as well as everyone at the warehouse? No time to answer questions, he thought.

"What?!! The PSAF are there and they're attacking you?"Robert was shocked as Eusebio related the events that had just unfolded. Alban had not told him of the presence of the PSAF. Possibly he did not know too? This whole situation was getting a bit complicated and mysterious. The PSAF could be there on private killing business from the President, but how could the President pit himself against the INDF and the UN? He had to warn Derrick.

The DS-359 shield had already long fizzled out and it had to take about another hour before it could be recharged to working capacity again. Eusebio knew that he had to face the PSAF head on. Although he knew that the senior agents would not have much of a problem, the junior agents were definitely outmatched by the superior PSAF soldiers. In addition, the AF guards would have certainly heard the gunshots and would be on the way. It would be two forces against one, or every force for itself. Eusebio did not know if the PSAF were on the AF's side or not, but was forced to make a very hard decision. One that could have dire consequences for the fourteen-men INDF unit. However, there was no other way out. It was make it or break it time.
